7 steps around the house
This was a Mrs. Palecek childhood favorite.
Equipment: None. You do need a "home spot", like a lightpost, a chair, a tree, etc.
How many people: 3+ (the more the better)
One person is "it". They tell the rest of the group how many steps to take and if they are big or small. (Ex. "Take 11 large steps")
From the home spot, all the players follow those directions, working their way around the outside of the house. After they give the direction of how many steps to take, the person that is "it' goes the opposite direction around the house and finds a hiding spot. The goal for the rest of the players is to be the first one to make it all the way around the house and back to the "home spot".
Whoever is "it" finds some sort of hiding spot. If they see one of the players moving, they call out their name and then that player has to go back to the "home spot" and start over (taking the same number of steps as told initially, then continuing the game). If you are one of the players of the game, and you see the person that is "it" in their hiding spot, you call out their name and their hiding spot (I see Ted behind the chair on the deck!). The person who is "it" needs to move and find a new hiding spot. It is okay for the person that is "it" to move from hiding spot to hiding spot, and even come up behind the other players to try and catch them moving.
The first player to make it back "home" is the new "it", and the game starts over.
